Happy April Fools! We’re back once again to celebrate our biggest holiday of the year! C’mon, did you really think we wouldn’t have some news on April 1st? It’s been EIGHT YEARS. Anyway, this year, we teamed up with a bunch of great indies to bring you the first ever Rivals World. Each game and studio involved features a Rivals crossover along with some exclusive interviews and fun Rivals Direct-only content. Check out our first-ever Rivals World Direct in its entirety here:
Another Crab’s Treasure
Friendly studio Aggro Crab joined us this year to show off their upcoming game, Another Crab’s Treasure – their soulslike adventure set in a crumbling underwater world. Since their game takes place underwater, they naturally chose to feature a Forsburn crossover costume for their crab-tastic hero Kril. We have to admit he knows how to wear it.
Watch their section of the Direct to see more gameplay and an exclusive interview with their Studio Head and Art Director Nick Kaman.
Another Crab’s Treasure is planned to release later this year on Steam and Nintendo Switch. Be sure to wishlist Another Crab’s Treasure today:
Backpack Hero
TheJaspel joined us to talk items, items, and more items in Backpack Hero! This Early Access Game is the inventory management roguelike. Collect rare items, organize your bag, and vanquish your foes!
Check out their section of the Direct to see some of the new items you can find from the world of Aether. Backpack Hero is in Early Access on Steam right now, and is coming to consoles next month. Try or buy it here on Steam.
Duelists of Eden
For this special Rivals Direct crossover, we’re over the moon to share that Maypul is joining the cast of Duelists of Eden! Duelists of Eden is a fast-paced mix of strategy and real-time action using weapons and your own unique combination of spells. You’ll need to react to opponents and think on your feet to take down the competition. See some of the action in their Maypul gameplay trailer below:
Make sure to check out their segment of the Direct for more gameplay and a fun interview with Thomas Moon Kang, the creator and coder behind the series.
Duelists of Eden launches later this year on Steam and Nintendo Switch. Be sure to wishlist Duelists of Eden today:
Samurai Gunn 2
Ranno is joining Samurai Gunn 2! This online party fighter is easy to pick up and difficult to master. Utilize Ranno’s unique movement to tongue-sling across terrain and trap opponents in bubbles in this fast and complex one-hit combat system.
Check out their section of the Direct to see more than just the teaser, including an exclusive interview with “Beau”. Samurai Gunn 2 is in Early Access on steam right now – Check it out.
Animal Well
Mr. videogamedunkey himself appeared in the Direct to share a magnificent Animal Well trailer. Words cannot describe the state this left us and all of our viewers in, so you’ll have to watch the segment below for the full treatment.
Animal Well’s release date is still to be announced, but you can wishlist the title now on Steam. In fact, make sure you do before the de-ranking waves start.
Dungeons of Aether
Dungeons of Aether was released on Steam just a few short months ago. Since then we’ve been hard at work releasing patches, bug fixes, and preparing a console port! That’s right, Dungeons of Aether lands on Nintendo Switch April 6th.
As if that news wasn’t exciting enough for you, our Rivals 1 team has been secretly working on a brand new stage skin that brings the underground mines of Julesvale to the center of the action! Badger Co. Mines is a new reskin with a unique music track for Frozen Fortress that unlocks if players own Dungeons of Aether on their Steam account. Rivals players on Switch will unlock the stage skin automatically when the next update releases, no need to wait for the console port.
Rivals 2
A full year after our initial announcement of Rivals 2, we’re back with even more exciting news. Fleet, the first new fighter to join the Rivals 2 cast is here! While the game is still in development with a target launch date sometime in 2024, we’re ecstatic to reveal the fifth playable Rival as we get closer to release. Check out the Archer of Justice in all her glory:
If you’re excited about Rivals 2, you’ll also want to wishlist on Steam and head over to our website: Rivals2.com. You can sign up for our mailing list to stay up to date on important news. We also have a massive FAQ available from last year and weekly Moveset Mondays on our Twitter that should hold you over while we get closer to release.
That’s All Folks!
As always, thanks for watching! We hope you enjoyed our favorite holiday with cool reveals, lots of fun, and the addition of some fantastic studios joining in on the action. After last year’s outrageous puppet show, it feels good to share the stage with some actual humans this time. Let us know your favorite part of the show or game updates in the comments below.
Very cool!
